This November, Southwestern Advantage<\/strong> Foundation<\/strong> continued its annual tradition of supporting Latvia\u2019s active students through the Entrepreneurial Youth Scholarship<\/strong>, organized in collaboration with the University of Latvia Foundation (LU Fonds)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The scholarship was created to support and recognize proactive young leaders<\/strong> dedicated to self-development and creating a positive impact on those around them \u2014 qualities that reflect the values and mission of Southwestern Advantage.<\/p>\n<\/div>

A Day of Inspiration and Connection<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Entrepreneurship and Leadership Seminar<\/strong>, held in Riga on November 1st, 2025<\/strong>, gathered top applicants for a day filled with learning and inspiration.<\/p>\n

During the event, Southwestern Advantage leaders Madara Brauere<\/strong>, Kristaps Kaza<\/strong>, and Kristaps Zakulis<\/strong> shared insights on entrepreneurship, communication, and leadership \u2014 offering participants not only valuable knowledge but also a space to connect with other driven young people.<\/p>\n

Although only one scholarship is awarded each year, the seminar is designed to ensure every attendee leaves with new ideas, contacts, and motivation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Celebrating This Year\u2019s Winner: Betija Butkus<\/strong><\/h3>\n

After a close selection process by the scholarship committee and participant voting, the 2025 Entrepreneurial Youth Scholarship<\/strong> was awarded to Betija Butkus<\/strong>, a student at the University of Latvia\u2019s Primary Education Teacher program<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Betija\u2019s story is one of initiative, leadership, and purpose<\/strong>. Even before her university studies, she distinguished herself through participation in educational projects and national competitions \u2014 earning 4th place in \u201cBizness 24h,\u201d<\/strong> a Latvian entrepreneurship contest, and 8th place in \u201cBIO-GO-Higher,\u201d<\/strong> an academic challenge focused on innovation and science.<\/p>\n

Her passion for guiding and empowering others is evident through her work as a mentor in the \u201cFuture Leaders Sigulda\u201d<\/strong> program, as well as in the University of Latvia Mentorship Program<\/strong>. In high school, she founded a student company<\/strong> and organized a charity event<\/strong> at an orphanage, reflecting her genuine desire to contribute to her community.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, philanthropy is not just financial support \u2014 it\u2019s also about believing in someone. Knowing that someone believes in my potential gives me strength and motivation to continue growing,\u201d Betija wrote in her essay.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Betija aims to become a motivating and creative teacher<\/strong> who inspires students toward self-growth and leadership \u2014 contributing meaningfully to the future of education in Latvia. Her vision perfectly embodies the spirit of the Entrepreneurial Youth Scholarship<\/strong>: empowering students who strive not only to achieve but also to uplift others.<\/p>\n<\/div>
